Due to the spread of a worm on the army networks, the US army has recently had to ban all removable media. This includes media such as USB drives, flash memory cards, disks, removable drives etc.

This has been an issue for the army and any type of worm/virus/malware that can spread via removable devices does pose a huge security risk. If their network does become compromised then it could pave the way for hackers to gain access to sensitive data or to cause harm within the network.

The removable media is banned temporary, until the army releases their own authorized media devices. Users within the network will no longer be able to use personal devices.

Recently, removable media has been the target for many new worms and trojans. It is a very effective way for these forms of malware to spread across networks. Always check your own removable devices and always run a regular spyware scan.
