This is a type of autorun file that is used to execute code and install malware on computer systems. The autorun.inf can be created by different types of worms.
The infected autorun.inf file is placed in root (top level) directories of any type of fixed or removable drive. For drives with autorun enabled, the code inside the autorun.inf will be executed and malware will be installed.
Since the infected file can be spread to removable drives, it can also infect other systems if the drive has been infected and is then connected to other PCs.
It is probably worth keeping autorun disabled to avoid harmful autorun.inf files from executing.
