McAfee has recently reported that a very large number of fake MP3 files have been spreading across P2P networks.  The bad news is that one of these MP3 files can very easily infect your PC with dangerous malware or viruses.

The infection is not limited to MP3 files, but can also be present in MPG video files. So beware with any downloaded .mp3 or .mpg files.  When users attempt to play/open one of these files, they will be prompted to download a file called “PLAY_MP3.exe”. If the user accepts this install, then they will be immediately infected.

So take care with your MP3 files. We recommend that you run a free anti-virus scan at least once every week.
